In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs during the course of the space of six months. In 2017, the song Despacito which was a mix of reggaeton with pop music, not only brought new attention to reggaeton music but also increased interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs in 2016, as opposed to two in 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. Then, various artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars including Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019. A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards mainstream music in 2020. However, a brand new band, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the development and growth of reggaeton. He used elements from other genres and electronic music.
